Frequently Asked Questions
How do I take a good photo for contour detection?+
Place the part on a contrasting background (dark part on light surface or vice versa). Ensure even lighting without harsh shadows. Include a reference object (coin, ruler) next to the part for accurate scaling.
What is a reference object and why do I need it?+
A reference object is something with a known real-world dimension (e.g., a coin with known diameter). SnapCAM uses it to calculate the pixel-to-mm conversion ratio, enabling accurate measurements from the photo.
Which CNC controllers are supported?+
SnapCAM generates G-code compatible with GRBL (Arduino-based), Mach3 (Windows), and LinuxCNC. Fanuc and Siemens support is planned for future updates.
How accurate is the measurement?+
SnapCAM uses Decimal arithmetic (never floating-point) for all calculations. With a good reference object, accuracy reaches ±0.05mm for laser cutting and ±0.01mm for CNC milling. Always perform a test cut to verify.
Can I use SnapCAM offline?+
Basic contour detection and G-code generation work offline. Cloud features like project sync and AI-enhanced shape recognition require an internet connection.
How do I export my G-code to my CNC machine?+
SnapCAM exports G-code as .nc, .gcode, or .ngc files. You can share via email, AirDrop, USB, or cloud storage. The file can then be loaded into your CNC controller software.
What materials are in the database?+
Mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, MDF, plywood, and acrylic. Each material includes optimized feed rates by thickness for laser, plasma, and CNC milling operations.
How do I cancel my subscription?+
You can cancel anytime through the app settings or by contacting [email protected]. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Refunds available within 14 days of initial purchase.
